Proclamations, commendations and appreciations, 1943-1947.

This series consists of proclamations made by the governor. The proclamations concern declarations of special days, commendations for meritorious or special services and congratulatory statements. All of the proclamations are attested by the Secretary of State and embossed with the state seal. This series also contains two different forms of proclamations: commendations and appreciations. These are more specialized forms of proclamations which are filed separately. Correspondence for/or against a specific proclamation topic is also included in this series. The proclamation files of Governor Chauncey Sparks contain numerous correspondence and petitions regarding Daylight Savings Time.

Chauncey Sparks was a prominent public figure who served in a variety of positions in Alabama, including Barbour County inferior court judge, Eufaula city attorney, and Alabama Department of Archives and History trustee.
